The West Highland line has been voted the top rail journey in the world by readers of independent travel magazine, Wanderlust. You can join the train at Fort William station which is little over an hour from The Glen Hotel in Newtonmore, the journey features beautiful scenery that has been used for Harry Potter films and has also been featured on the BBC Great Railway Journeys of the world programme.

Tourists Flock To Newtonmore!
TV programmes including Balamory and Monarch of the Glen - have led to a dramatic rise in visitor numbers at the locations where they were filmed. The report, commissioned by film and tourism bodies, reveals that locations most likely to pull in tourists are stately homes, historic and religious buildings and rural or village landscapes - And of course this had a big impact on The Glen Hotel.
